Understanding that we never stop learning, that perspective is what we make of it and that life, in general, is all about interpretation is the key to happy people. Know that you are not alone that there is so much more for you as a legal professional than you could ever imagine. This episode is obviously dear to my heart, and I hope to one day speak about it on the main stage.

We have a few events coming up they are all virtual for now. Hopefully next year we will be able to bring you a live event! So, check out our events page to learn more.

I literally built the Let’s Talk Paralegal brand to empower while educating legal professionals. I want you to understand that you only grow while learning.

Maya Angelou has this amazing quote “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made the feel”

I always try to make this a point in my company. It is not only about providing information, teaching the most up to date items out there, researching and assuring that we provide the most accurate and reliable material possible…. It is about the impact. The reach that “feeling” that Maya Angelou so graciously reminds us through her words.

Because let’s be honest you may not remember everything we say on the podcast, wrote in the book, or even what you learned through our workshops, webinars, and events. It is how we made you feel seen, heard, and most importantly understood. I’ve been there done that. I have experienced the life of this illusionary 9-5 law firm chaos of an industry. I have stayed quiet through meetings and sometimes underestimated my self during interviews.  It has nothing to do with my confidence because as you can see I am not the shyest person! It was because I didn’t know my worth. What I brought to the table what my uniqueness could offer to such an institution and monstrosity of an industry. The legal industry can consume you, tear you down, but you can come back up in victory. You can fall 99 times but get up 100 times. You can get knocked down in the ring but it’s the getting back up and fightinh part that counts. Our mistakes, our so called flaws, they do no define us they do not won us they are stepping stones to something bigger.

I am a recovering perfectionist. Perfectionism is not that I want everything to be perfect is that I want it to go to plan. Our to-do list, deadlines, scheduling, meetings, events, you name it consume what little we have left. It is up to us to take control and start being ambitious, proactive, speaking up at meetings, putting our “2 cents” into every conversation we can be a part of.

Start building tables, start sitting at those tables already made, and start growing ourselves and our skills in the process.

I did not know how to run a business when I decided to go off on my own. I learned. I didn’t know everything about everything… I learned. I still learn. You never stop learning, you will never be better than anyone. Because we all have something to offer. And if you take anything about what I have said thus far is that you do have plenty to offer. Regardless of you experience, your education… YOU as a person have something to offer that other don’t. That’s what makes us human not robots.

So let’s stop being taskers and robots. And lets start being the servants of the law that we were called to be.

By educating ourselves, keeping are skills and knowledge up to date, by going above the call and making sure that we know everything there is to know about the companies we work with and work for. From phone systems to case management software… NOTHING should be beneath us. Everything is our job because if you do not know the full process you will not be able to succeed and stay on top of your job. Be the process developer, IT person, case manager… whatever it is you need to be in order to get the job done effectively. Trust me if you do this you will no longer have to work long hours late nights and endless nights on trials that we get trial orders for months in advance. I mean how crazy is this concept?

End of rant I promise. As we take end Season 2 of the Let’s Talk Paralegal podcast I want you to learn as much as you can. Our website and our YouTube channel  have plenty of free content and information, and resources you can check out. We will come back in the fall stronger than ever. Breaks are necessary and needed to rebuild anew. So take the time to enrich yourself with what my company and other companies out there have to offer.

You got this! Until Justice is served I will be here. Bye!
