Most of us chose to work in the legal industry.
The first question you need to ask yourself is why? For me it was because I realized that the legal industry pours into every other industry worldwide which I see that as a means to do quite literally anything with my skills.
The second question is why do you continue to work in the legal industry? We all know that the legal industry can be vigorous and at times soul sucking. I have seen the best legal professionals leave the industry because of its high demands.
The third question is what are you going to do about it? In other words,… what do you want out of your legal career? Do you want more money? Fame? Followers? Do you want more recognition? More skills? All of the above?
The bottom line is you’re not getting what you want out of your legal career because you either do not know what you want, meaning you haven’t figured it out quite yet or you do know what you want and do not know how to proceed accordingly.
This is where a mentor / coach would come in. If you haven’t listened to our Season 2 Let’s Talk Paralegal podcast episode Why mentoring?, do so after this one.
Investing in yourself by attending courses, enhancing your skills, networking, asking for promotions/raises and so much more… will help you get to where you want to go (once you have figured that out). In short, be your own advocate!
You see you are your greatest investment. Like the author Melissa Stewart says “your mind is multimillion-dollar real estate. Be very selective what you let reside there.”
Changing your perspective and mindset are crucial to both your personal and professional growth. By being open to new opportunities that come your way, looking at your current situation with a new set of eyes, and even making yourself laugh, smile, happy again… it will be a total game changer you guys!
So as a recap, ask yourself those three questions, look for a mentor/coach, invest in yourself, and change your perspectives. I promise you this will drastically alter your current situations. After all you are the captain of your ship, the pilot to your plane, and the life to live in your journey…. Until Justice is served… I’ll be here! Bye.
